Just Energy Transition and Green Minerals Meeting

The meeting reflected on the AGMS’s key thematic pillars, with SARW providing significant input on the geopolitics of critical minerals, as well as on social and environmental stewardship. These contributions drew on SARW’s ongoing work on community benefit sharing, human rights safeguarding, and the advancement of green minerals diplomacy in a rapidly shifting global minerals and energy landscape.

SARW was represented at the meeting by its new Programme Manager, Dr Kabaso Kabwe, and Senior Advisor, Davie Malungisa, who both contributed to the strategic discussions and knowledge exchange.

Other key presentations and discussions centred on improving the narrative around Africa’s green minerals and ensuring that Pan-African thought leadership meaningfully guides the implementation of the AGMS. Participants underscored the importance of positioning African institutions, expertise, and priorities at the centre of global energy transition debates.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to consolidate this collaborative platform and to support continental institutions such as the African Minerals Development Centre in advancing the implementation of the AGMS, in line with the broader aspirations of the AMV for inclusive and sustainable mineral-led industrialisation and development.
