Kitwe, Zambia | June 6–7, 2025

A high-level dialogue hosted by the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development (MMMD) and the Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) brought together government representatives, civil society, trade unions, student movements, and academia to assess Zambia’s progress on its critical minerals and copper production strategies.

Progress was noted, including:

  • Launch of the Critical Minerals Strategy

  • DRC-Zambia collaboration on EV batteries

  • Inclusion of women and youth in policy

But gaps remain, particularly in:

  • Financing and coordination

  • Environmental and ESG safeguards

  • Support for artisanal miners

  • Clear roadmaps for value addition
