SUMMARY:SARW launches the UNTAPPED POTENTIAL: Gender Inequality in Southern African Mining Report
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]	\n[vc_column_text]\nOn the 6th of February 2024 during the Alternative Mining Indaba\, SARW launched the UNTAPPED POTENTIAL: Gender Inequality in Southern African Mining Report which is based on research conducted in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)\, Mozambique\, South Africa\, Zambia\, and Zimbabwe. It examines the roles of governments and mining companies in the mining sector and recommends strategies to end gender inequality. \nIn Southern Africa\, women face discrimination and limited opportunities in the mining industry. Although national policies and laws promote gender equality\, progress is slow. The report recommends that governments mandate mines to pursue gender equity\, penalize companies that discriminate\, regulate artisanal mining\, and combat prejudices and stereotypes. Companies should set clear targets and monitor progress toward gender equity. \n[/vc_column_text]	\nDownload Report \n[vc_column_text text_align=”left”]\nGallery\n[/vc_column_text]	\n[/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Climate Change Action - Critical Minerals and Energy Transition in Africa
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column]	\n[vc_column_text]As part of its efforts to support climate actions in Africa and generate evidence for the COP processes\, SARW organises various dialogues and engagements with civil society\, businesses\, and governance. These activities aim to inform Africa’s stance on critical minerals and the energy transition. During the Africa Climate Summit in Kenya\, SARW hosted a strategic meeting to advance its work on critical minerals and energy transition. The Meeting on Climate Change Action\, Critical Minerals\, and Energy Transition in Africa was pivotal in advancing SARW’s approach to challenges at the intersection of climate change\, minerals\, and energy. It emphasised the importance of unified action\, informed policymaking\, and responsible resource management. The collective wisdom gained from this meeting offers hope and a roadmap for sustainable development in African nations.[/vc_column_text]	\nAccess the full meeting \n[vc_column_text text_align=”left”]\nGallery\n[/vc_column_text]	\n[/vc_column][/vc_row]
