Announcement on New Funding Support to SARW from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation

We are pleased to share with you great news on the new funding support to SARW by The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation towards our Business and Human Rights Programme. The regional project titled “ Development Finance for Community Environment and Justice Defenders in Southern Africa” is meant to promote business and human rights in SADC’s mining sector through the identification of best practices on effective and sustained community participation. Working with communities and mining companies, the project will establish new and strengthen existing grievance mechanisms relating to community participation in all stages of the mine cycle. Importantly, the project seeks to have mining companies and financial institutions play a critical role in the financing of community-based groups or human rights defenders in monitoring the state of human rights and environment in areas of operations, communication and reporting for collaborative partnerships.
